Western media part of political establishment, far from independent: Analyst

Western media outlets are part of the political establishment and not independent.

Most Western media organizations, including the large and more prominent ones, are part of the Western political establishment and far from objective and independent, according to a commentator.

Lawrence Freeman, an African affairs analyst, made the remarks on Press TV’s weekly Africa Today program on Monday.

“First thing you have to realize is that the majority of the Western media outlets including the very largest ones are part of the political or geopolitical establishment. They’re not independent journalists seeking truth,” Freeman said.

Western media outlets are among Africa’s greatest enemies, with consistently biased coverage of the continent aimed at cementing stereotypes that African countries suffer from a leadership crisis and are incapable of producing capable leaders.

The corporate Western media, which happens to be tied to the Western military-industrial complex, has often been blasted for meddling in Africa’s internal affairs to the extent of inciting violence and fomenting civil wars.

The core objective of projecting Africa as a “dark continent” has been to show that it requires Western enlightenment in the garb of modern-day enslavement and neo-colonialism.

According to Freeman, Western media have an “agenda” and coordinate or at least work together with “political and financial oligarchies”.

He slammed Western media outlets as “not objective” who are not searching and reporting honestly and do not try to find the truth.

Western media serves imperialist, neo-colonial agenda

The Western mass media has over the years earned the dubious distinction of not being neutral and resorting to discrimination and racism against Africans. The ideology of neo-colonialism continues to dictate what the Western media reports on Africa.

Abayomi Azikiwe, the editor of the Pan African News Wire, in his remarks said that mainstream Western media outlets are serving the imperialist and neo-colonial agenda, citing the civil war in northern Ethiopia, concentrated in Tigray.

Azikiwe told Press TV’s Africa Today program that the Western media tried to depict the Ethiopian government as “disorganized and repressive” with the US supporting the rebels during the Tigray conflict over the past two years.

Tigray has been the scene of conflict since November 2020, when Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed sent troops there to topple Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in response to attacks on army camps.

The Western media outlets, which have been at the forefront of implementing the imperialist agenda of meddling and fomenting civil wars and political turmoil in Africa, have supported the TPLF rebel movement that plans to topple a democratically-elected government.

Freeman also described the Tigray conflict as an agenda intended to “weaken the government”.

“This is an attempt at regime change. They want to remove Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed because he is independent and not controlled by them. He was working on a plan for regional development and coordination,” Freeman asserted.

A political analyst says African people have been the victims of Anglo-Zionist capitalism, imperialism and colonization that have created a false demand for blood diamonds.

Counter-meddling by Western media 

Freeman urged African journalists to “respond quickly and appropriately” to false narratives peddled by Western media outlets.

He criticized African journalists for letting fake stories go viral without any counter, blaming it partly on the fact that African journalists do not want to cause friction between themselves and Western media.

“They [African journalists] are afraid to talk. They do not believe in fighting back as aggressively as they should, in an organized way. Negative stories about Africa circulate all around the world and they are not challenged,” Freeman rued.

He suggested that African countries form a unit in the government called the “rapid response team” to respond to outright lies, negative comments, false information, and false narratives, in a quicker and more forceful way.

Developing countries are all facing an onslaught from mainstream Western media outlets, which has increased the need for them to collaborate and counter the negative coverage.

La population congolaise en deuil suite au massacre de Kishishe

Le sang humain qui a inondé la localité de Kishishe le 29 novembre 2022 crie justice contre ses bourreaux. Jusques à quand la communauté régionale et internationale continueront à aider le régime de Kigali à voiler sa tête dans le sable comme l’Autriche pendant que toute sa nudité est exposée en plein air ?

Kigali, vedette et champion en crime de guerre…

A Kishishe, L’armée rwandaise sous couvert du M23 a massacré en cette unique circonstance 227 personnes relevant des tribus Hutu, Nande et Hunde ; les victimes sont précisément reparties de la manière suivante :

  • 30 morts au sein de la communauté Hunde ;
  • 102 morts au sein de la communauté Hutu et
  • 95 morts au sein de la communauté Nande.

Ce genre de crime s’étend sur toutes les zones actuellement occupées par le M23. Un autre massacre perpétré par le M23 a eu lieu à Kisharu, chef-lieu du groupement Binza, en chefferie des Bwisha, territoire de Rutshuru. Parmi les victimes, on retient entre autres les suivantes :

  2. Enjili Patrice
  3. Lobilo
  4. Denis Kambale
  5. Baraka Singa
  6. Boniface Sebuhinja
  7. Désiré Bikere
  8. Bahati Kapalata
  9. Alhonse Tsongo
  10. Isaac
  11. Shukuru
  12. Matondo
  13. Bahati Rwoga
  14. Rubiru
  15. Madame Semapfa ainsi que les autres dont les noms n’ont pas été immédiatement retrouvés.

Or, le M23 en soi n’existe pas. C’est le Rwanda qui le stimule et l’entretient. C’est l’objectif que nourrit Kigali, celle de s’arracher un territoire occupé en RD Congo, qui justifie tous les crimes que commettent ses agents, les soi-disant rebelles du M23 et les éléments RDF, en œuvre au Nord-Kivu. Kigali, sous l’emprise de ses sponsors occidentaux, est déterminé à occuper le Kivu et l’Ituri pour s’emparer des ressources naturelles dont regorge cette région qu’il voudrait exploiter sans les autochtones. A cet effet, la mission du M23 consiste à exterminer les habitants autochtones locaux pour laisser le terrain libre aux occupants devant venir s’y installer. Sur ce, la communauté internationale et l’EAC jouent unanimement une complicité à la fois ouverte et tacite.

Complicité tacite !

Partant des massacres de Béni, se poursuivant en Ituri, pour rebondir aujourd’hui dans le Rutshuru, avec les mêmes acteurs (rwandais et alliés) se cachant sous diverses fausses identités (ADF, CODECO, M23 etc.) et utilisant le même mode opératoire en tout hautement terroriste, aucune voix ne s’élève ni dans la région ni dans la sphère internationale pour dénoncer le crime de génocide pourtant visible à l’œil nu, absolument aucun effort n’est consenti pour une enquête indépendante devant déboucher sur un tribunal pénal international. Bien paradoxalement, la vedette dans ces crimes, le président rwandais Paul Kagame, est davantage exalté comme modèle de bonne gouvernance au cœur de l’Afrique.

Complicité ouverte !

Le soutien matériel et diplomatique au Rwanda et au M23 pour soutenir le crime planifié contre le peuple congolais n’est plus un secret. Les « armes sophistiquées » du M23 ont été exaltées par le représentant des Nations Unies en RD Congo. Mais qui fabrique ces armes sophistiquées et a l’habilité de les fournir sinon les pays de cette même communauté internationale représentée en RD Congo par cette fameuse MONUSCO ? Par ailleurs, au niveau régional et international, une grande pression s’exerce sans cesse pour forcer le gouvernement congolais de négocier avec les terroristes du M23, pendant que nulle part ailleurs on a vu un tel comportement lorsqu’un Etat responsable et souverain se retrouve en face des groupes qualifiés de terroristes. Il y a lieu de citer à titre illustratif l’Ouganda qui n’a jamais accepté de négocier avec les rebelles de la LRA de Joseph Kony ni avec ceux des ADF/NALU ; pareillement le Rwanda non plus a toujours rejeté avec la plus grande énergie toute idée suggérant des pourparlers entre Kigali et les rebelles rwandais du FDLR.

Le peuple congolais s’est réveillé de sa naïveté et dit aujourd’hui « non »…

Le massacre de Kishishe est la conséquence de « non » radical qu’oppose le peuple congolais au complot international visant son anéantissement par des méthodes variées. En effet, se trouvant en difficulté pour prendre le contrôle de la ville de Goma à partir de l’unique front de l’axe de Nyiragongo, le M23 projette avant tout enclaver cette ville capitale de la province du Nord-Kivu en planifiant la coupure de la route qui relie Goma au grand Nord-Kivu en passant par Masisi. Ainsi, la coalition M23-RDF retira-t-elle plusieurs unités de ses troupes des environs de Kibumba pour les redéployer dans la chefferie de Bwito, dans l’ouest du territoire de Rutshuru, en vue de tenter de déborder sur Kitshanga et Kirolirwe dans le but de couper par là le trafique entre Goma et le nord de la province. Ce plan machiavélique a forcé la résistance de l’autodéfense populaire à tout faire pour stopper l’avancée de ces terroristes au niveau de Kishishe : de nombreux soldats rwandais ont perdu la vie dans les embuscades tendues par la résistance locale. Le massacre de Kishishe intervient comme une lâche action de représailles menée par les criminels et terroristes de la coalition M23-RDF.

Tout compte fait, le M3 est bien un mouvement criminel et terroriste qu’il sied d’effacer ; le mobile de sa création, c’est le crime, et la finalité de sa mission, c’est toujours le crime ; il est là pour exterminer les autochtones et préparer le terrain pour les occupants qui doivent venir exploiter la RD Congo et ses ressources sans la participation des congolais eux-mêmes, comme les occidentaux l’ont fait entre autres aux Etats-Unis et au Canada où les indigènes (les premiers occupants) sont réduits au silence.

Béni-Lubero Online présente ses condoléances aux familles des victimes de massacre de Kishishe et à tout le peuple congolais réquisitionné pour cette circonstance à un deuil de trois jours. C’est bien de constater que lorsqu’il s’agit de l’affaire M23 le gouvernement congolais mobilise à la fois la nation et des moyens. Il y a lieu d’exiger que le gouvernement fasse de même pour ce qui concerne les groupes terroristes opérant dans la région de Béni et en Ituri où aucun geste de compassion national n’est observé, malgré la gravite de cette tragédie dans l’espace et dans le temps.

Pour clore, la communauté internationale et celle régionale qui se font passer pour donneuses de leçons dans la situation sécuritaire de la sous-région des grands lacs en général et dans l’est de la RDC devraient diligenter urgenter des enquêtes indépendantes sur les événements malheureux et tragiques de Kishishe, afin que Justice soit rendu de manière équitable.

Addressing the EIR Symposium, “Peace On Earth, Or Humanity’s Doom? The Case For Negotiations,” Canadian journalist Eva Bartlett, who was granted the 2017 International Journalism Award by the Journalists’ Club of Mexico and has spent years doing on-the-ground reporting of wars in the Middle East, gave an eyewitness account of the ongoing genocide against the people of Donbass, where she has been reporting for the last year. Since 2014, she reported, 12,500 civilians have been killed by sniping and shelling with NATO weapons in both the Lugansk People’s Republic and Donetsk People’s Republic, with over 4,500 killed since mid-February of this year. Given that civilian areas are targeted, this shelling constitutes terrorism and war crimes.

According to Bartlett, the Ukrainian military has also been saturating the Donbass with PFM-1 “petal” mines, insidious devices designed not to kill but to maim victims by blowing off their hands or feet. Children are particularly susceptible to these devices. She made the point that were Russia committing these crimes, it would be covered as a constant scandal by Western media. Bartlett ended her remarks by pointing to a flag of the Donetsk People’s Republic she proudly displays on the wall of her home, representing to her the resilience of a people shunned by most of the world and ridiculed as if their lives are meaningless. She expressed hope that the work she is doing will lead to Ukraine being held accountable for its war crimes and help allow people to speak openly about the fact that Ukraine is committing genocide.

Everybody Should Congratulate Ethiopians for Building GERD that Benefits Africa, Says American Analyst

Addis Ababa (ENA) December 20/2022 The Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is the greatest accomplishment in Sub-Saharan Africa and everybody should congratulate the Ethiopian people for taking this bold challenge and building the dam that benefits the continent, the American political-economic analyst Lawrence Freeman said.

The analyst who visited the project on Monday told ENA that “there is no reason for anybody to complain about this dam. The dam is the greatest accomplishment in Sub-Saharan Africa and everybody should congratulate the Ethiopian people for taking this bold challenge and building the largest dam in Africa and the 7th most powerful dam in the world.”

And I couldn’t be happier as an American who is standing at the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam under the rapid construction, he added.

Upon completion, the massive complex infrastructure is expected to generate almost 5,200 MW of electricity that will contribute to regional economic development which will also provide stability to the region.

According to Freeman, it is in the US interest to support Ethiopia in its efforts to build the Renaissance Dam, the largest hydro-electric dam on the African continent.

The dam will be the biggest infusion of electrical power in Sub-Saharan Africa that will make Ethiopia the second largest producer of power behind South Africa.

Ethiopia should therefore be congratulated by the United States and by the western world for this phenomenal accomplishment, Freeman stressed.

“I think that the United States and the western governments should be praising Ethiopia and to be finding ways in order to develop its economy. Given the aspiration of the Ethiopian government to provide electricity, this is the first step of much work to be done.”

The analyst elaborated that “Africa needs a lot of energy infrastructure. I (therefore) want to see thousands of bigger water powers. This is an important first step and Ethiopia should be congratulated by the United States and by the western world for this phenomenal and beautiful accomplishment.”

Freeman added that he witnessed a speedy construction of the Grand Renaissance Dam.

“So getting here today was a special moment in my adult life time……. I think that the United States and the western governments should be praising Ethiopia and to be finding ways in order to develop its economy. Given the aspiration of the Ethiopian government to provide electricity, this is the first step of much work to be done.”

He also hoped that the completion of the dam in the near future would change the Horn of Africa for the better.

When asked about the repeated grievances coming from the downstream countries, mainly Egypt, the American said that there is no rationale to complain.

There is no reason for anybody to complain about this dam. It is the greatest accomplishment in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Freeman noted that Ethiopia has reaffirmed many times that the construction of GERD will not significantly affect the flow of  the Abbay River into the downstream countries.

As a result, Ethiopia has also considered the downstream countries in the process of building the dam by making two wide bottom outlets in which water flows throughout the year.

The American analyst believes that the Grand Renaissance Dam should be considered as a victory for this generation of Ethiopia like the forefathers.

“As I studied, Ethiopians under Menelik II defeated the Italian army on 1st March 1896 at the Battle of Adwa. That was the first time an African nation defeated the so-called modern army, and Ethiopia had resulted in never being colonized. The Ethiopians mindset is a strong identity for the nation of the future vision. This dam represents the same identity and mindset that was so in Adwa Victory.”

Recall that Ethiopia has completed the third filling of the reservoir of its flagship project, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, and the second turbine with a 375 Megawatt has started  generating electricity.

The country, which is a source of 85 percent of the Nile, is filling the GERD reservoir through a gradual process and only during its rainy season to allow the river to continue flowing to downstream countries.
