My name is Joseph —–, I am Rwandan and I come to react by contribution to the intervention of my fellow countryman, who talked about Rwanda to the point of view of development.

I love my country Rwanda. I’d like to see it fully developed but unfortunately this development we are talking about is  nothing else than the development of facade and cosmetic. I’d like to speak in terms of development that I have witnessed while living in the Great Lakes. In the 1960`s, I  heard of Congo(Zaire) developed with the gigantic projects such as : mining resources and the Inga dam but which have not been  achieved until the Congo collapsed  and ended up being colonized by Rwanda.

We also talked about the development in Burundi since 1960 and 1970 that were nothing other than the city of Bujumbura, what  actually had some potential.

Today in Rwanda, we are talking about development because we see the empty buildings amounted to in  Kigali while people are starving and others  fleeing to Tanzania.

So the country has become the country with the most inequality in the region, while in terms of development including energy attribute, we have nothing. Today Rwanda has 98% of wood energy use. How can it be developed without energy ? There is destruction of the ecosystem, Gishwati is a natural forest in Rwanda destroyed 99% according to the NASA report. The Karega national Park destroyed 2/3 which is also the official statistic. So how can we talk of the development? The country is in debt by one billion six hundred dollars, we had erased those debts in 2006 in Rwanda because of the genocide. Today the country is re-indebted by more than three billion dollars. There are exports which are relapsing, and now amount to about five hundred and fifty-eight millions, or chronic deficits of about one million eight hundred. A Rwandan franc which continues to fall. How can we be talking about development in the country? A country that it has abandoned its debt, continues to be in debt and the country has no real production or economy worthy of its name.
