Egypt Constructs Nile-Style ‘Green River’ To Run in New Capital

Jan. 15, 2019 (EIRNS)—Yesterday, Egyptian government officials were on hand as hundreds of engineers and workers started the construction of what is to be a new river, coursing through sections of the New Administrative Capital, in the same way the Nile River goes through old Cairo. The goal is to complete what is called the “Green River” within 18 months; seven contracting companies are involved, with brigades of laborers. Recycled water will be used. A riverside botanical garden is planned, which is intended to draw a couple million visitors annually.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli was on hand for the ceremony to mark the construction start-up. The New Administrative Capital was also in headlines Jan. 6 for the simultaneous inauguration of a new mosque and Coptic cathedral.

The New Administrative Capital, located some 60 km east of Cairo, is one of Egypt’s mega-infrastructure projects, and poses new features of functionality and beauty for a new city.
