Italian Ambassador to the DRC killed near Goma

The Italian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo has been killed along with his bodyguard and driver in an ambush in eastern DRC. Ambassador Luca Attanasio was shot by unknown assailants on Monday morning as he travelled in a convoy of the World Food Programme.
