Zimbabwe Invests in Steel Manufacturing

This year has seen a multi-billion dollar mining deal signed between the government of Zimbabwe and the Chinese company Tsingshan.

Mvuma will be the site of a 2 million tonne steel manufacturing plant which will produce 1 million tonnes of carbon steel and 1 million tonnes of stainless steel.

A 600 mega-watt coal-fired power plant will be built.

The deal includes the mining of lithium ( for batteries), chrome, iron ore, nickel and coal.

The deal will create at least 30 000 jobs .

The steel will be used domestically and for export.

Steel production is essential for growth in manufacturing.
