South Africa’s Zuma Fights for the BRICS

Nov. 21-South African President Jacob Zuma has just launched a campaign–in his capacity as president of the ruling African National Congress (ANC)–to educate his party’s cadre on the crucial role of the BRICS, the world-building movement, in South Africa’s future and the future of the world. Zuma began his campaign Nov. 18—he calls it an “unofficial campaign tour”–with an address to 3,000 cadre in Pietermaritzburg, not far from Durban. It was carried live to a national television audience by the South African Broadcasting Corporation, and live to audiences throughout southern Africa by eNews Channel Africa (eNCA). The next day, Zuma brought the message to cadre in KwaDukuza, another town in the region. He is expected to continue these addresses—they are almost tutorials–throughout the country.
Zuma’s breakthrough, his decision to take personal responsibility to fight for the BRICS, comes after members of his government, among others—for the past year and more—have taken an interest in the strategic message of Ramasimong Phillip Tsokolibane, leader of LaRouche South Africa. Tsokolibane has stressed that South Africa is crucial to the BRICS as its initial connection to Africa, and that conversely, South Africa will not thrive, nor even survive, without the economic independence enabled by the BRICS, and its “Build! Build! Build!” spirit. For some, this much was not news.
But, Tsokolibane emphasized, South Africa will be torn out of the BRICS by the hybrid warfare for regime change, coming from the City of London and Wall Street, unless the South African people are made aware of what BRICS is, and what is at stake, and are mobilized in its support. For the vast majority of South Africans, the BRICS is a distant “something,” if they have heard of it at all. The South African mass media, steered by the British empire, have kept it that way.
The regime-change operations of U.S. President Obama and his controllers in Buckingham Palace have generated a rising tide of confusion and misdirection, even among ANC members. The regime-change propaganda, and the agitation of many thousands of agents of influence, leaves many South Africans thinking that if President Zuma would just resign, it would be the first step toward solving South Africa’s problems. The opposite is true: Strengthening the BRICS is that necessary first step.
Zuma’s Message
In his addresses, Zuma delivered this message:
The BRICS is a powerful combination in the world’s balance of forces and it thinks independently [of the trans-Atlantic consensus]. BRICS members Russia and China are permanent members of the UN Security Council with veto power. China is the number one economic power in the world. BRICS has interfered with the global balance of forces, posing a serious threat to other powerful forces. The relationship among the BRICS countries is growing. Political power without control of the economy does not mean anything; we need the BRICS and its program to gain control over our own economy. That is why South Africa [under Zuma] was the one that pushed for the BRICS bank.
Zuma emphasized that South Africa’s membership in the BRICS was {the} reason for the relentless attacks on him, which, he correctly pointed out, were really attacks on South Africa.
The regime-changers do not want an open, public debate on the BRICS, free of disinformation. They would lose. Instead, they create a sequence of soap operas around President Zuma, to destroy the President who has worked to make the BRICS a reality. Meanwhile, the BRICS is not brought into public discussion. Zuma is now scuppering that game by making BRICS the issue.
Referring to these soap operas, Zuma said, “If you look at what’s happening in South Africa today, you’d swear we’re quarrelling among ourselves, and not see the hand that is influencing it all.”
He pointed to the impeachment of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff in August as an attack on BRICS. And they have tried that here, he said. “Here in South Africa, we’ve been to Parliament seven times with a vote of no confidence.”
The no confidence votes do not pass, but they have been successful as psychological warfare, eroding confidence and ANC solidarity, and sowing confusion.
Zuma also recalled what happened in December 2015, when he attempted to replace his finance minister with one who would be responsive to a truly South African and BRICS agenda:
“You do everything according to the Constitution, and then people that control the economy tell you to drop everything; they want to burn the country, and you can see that if you don’t change your decision, they {will} really burn the country.
The ratings agencies “are part of the arsenal being used by countries seeking to smash the BRICS alliance,” Zuma said.
The agencies are in South Africa right now. Moody’s, Fitch, and S&P are sniffing around and are expected to lower the country’s ratings before the end of the year.
Zuma pointed to an example of the regime-changers’ disinformation: “China is growing faster than all other countries, but they’re always saying ‘that economy is sluggish.’ All because they’re just fighting BRICS.”
A Window of Opportunity
Zuma spoke eloquently for 70 minutes to attentive audiences that listened as he spoke and sang when he sang. Many of his hearers wore t-shirts printed with the message, “Hands Off My President.”
A pastor in Pretoria who watched one of the broadcasts, concluded, “The BRICS revolution as an economic revolution is a global {force} in South Africa’s favour, but we are too clouded by petty politics to see it.”
Zuma recently declared, “I am not afraid of jail.” He recognizes that he, personally, must continue this fight as long as it takes, even if he is out of office.
With the defeat of President Obama’s intended successor, Hillary Clinton, and the election of an anti-establishment President–or more precisely, one who rejects the London-Wall Street outlook at least for now—there is a valuable window of opportunity that South African patriots must not miss.
